Here are our team updates from our base in Tagbilaran, Bohol:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Networking<\/b><\/p>\n

Yesterday (October 29, 2013), Ed and Lala attended a Shelter Cluster meeting in Tagbilaran City. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was secretariat to the activity, and several different Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) were in attendance. The main concern of both the DSWD and CSOs was validation of houses categorized as partially or totally damaged. The DSWD has currently deployed some staff to do the validation, although CSOs could keep in touch with municipal engineers for this purpose already. However, this would not be a problem in Santo Rosario, at least, since validation was done the previous week.<\/p>\n

The meeting also reflected the provincial government\u2019s target to move from relief operations to early recovery. This was because one of the general observations was that families were already starting to do demolition and repairs of their old houses, or setting up transitional shelters. They were using materials provided by the DSWD or CSOs, or those salvaged from their own houses.<\/p>\n

Shelter Repair Kit Distribution in Antequera<\/b><\/p>\n

Chris and Lycel have departed for Santo Rosario with Shelter Repair Kits in preparation for the distribution today. The actual distribution will be taking place this afternoon.<\/p>\n

We will be distributing 120 shelter repair kits in the barangay of Santo Rosario. As you may remember, during our community consultation with them, shelter repair kits were the primary need identified by this community. During a meeting with the Provincial Governor Chatto and other CSOs the other day, this was a common sentiment in many of the communities in which CSOs are operating.<\/p>\n

Food packs and Hygiene kits<\/b><\/p>\n

Ani and the Boholunteers have done an inventory of the remaining food packs and hygiene kits at our office. They are also continuing to pack these remaining relief items for distribution.<\/p>\n

DAI Visit to Loon<\/b><\/p>\n

When Regine and Disaster Aid International accompanied PHIVOLCS to check on the potential tent communities in Loon yesterday, one of the areas identified in Moto Sur was deemed potentially unsafe. While a portion of it was still usable, the remaining area would still not be enough to house the target of 50 families.<\/p>\n

Today, Regine, Bibing and DAI will be visiting Loon to do an ocular of an area suggested by Mayor Lopez. They will also be taking a look at a community in Loon which, according to input from the Shelter Cluster Meeting yesterday, has received very little aid to date.<\/p>\n

Arrival of Myrna Siose and Co.<\/b><\/p>\n

Today, we will be happily welcoming Ate Myrna of the VOICE Network, along with two volunteers. We look forward to what we know will be their valuable contributions to our team. Ate Myrna and the volunteers of the VOICE network have also been our partners in our relief operations for Tropical Storm Sendong and Typhoon Pablo.<\/p>\n
