As of the latest NDRRMC report this morning (October 21, 2013 at 6am), a total of 605,350 families or 3,003,001 persons were affected in 1,339 barangays in 52 municipalities and 6 cities in 6 provinces of Regions VI and VII. Out of this, about 12 percent (80,667 families or 380,906 persons) were displaced and now located both outside and inside 86 evacuation centers. 186 individuals have been reported dead, 583 injured and 11 missing, most of whom are residents of Bohol.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Bohol Earthquake Updates and Plans from the Assessment Team:<\/b><\/p>\n

Here are some updates, ideas, suggestions, plans, etc drawn up by our Team after 4 days of presence in Bohol:<\/p>\n

\u00a01.\u00a0Community (Barangay) – Based\/Focus DR<\/span><\/p>\n

This approach is still recommended as it allows us to optimize the use of our limited resources. It also allows us to see the results\/impact of our interventions.<\/p>\n

At least two barangays (Sto. Rosario and Biga) in the Municipality of Antiquera are being seriously considered based on the recommendation of Antiquera Mayor Jose “Boy” Pahang and former Mayor Billy “Tatay” Tongco, and with the concurrence\/support of Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto.<\/p>\n

(Re)-Defining our Strategy:<\/p>\n

The Team also thinks and suggests that we modify our meaning of “barangay-focused DR” to be initially limited to emergency RESPONSE only. This means that our interventions, while remaining focused, will include only distribution of relief goods and distribution\/setting up of temporary shelter (tents). We may also include shelter repair kits and even pschosocial activities. However, our planned interventions may NOT include livelihood, capacity-building, and other activities beyond emergency response. We will evaluate and determine later whether it will be necessary and realistic to offer other interventions.<\/p>\n

The Team also thinks that setting up tents close to the survivors’ damaged house instead of establishing tent communities could be a more appropriate response.<\/p>\n

2. Other Response<\/span><\/p>\n

The Team also suggests that we also distribute relief goods to selected survivors in selected barangays\/municipalities in response to requests from our friends and colleagues. Among the areas identified are those suggested by Richard (Brgy. Kinoguitan, Loboc), Celoy (Guindulman), Pi-ai (Loon), Reybarns (Maribojoc), Flong (Inabanga) and Bernard (Taloto).<\/p>\n

\u00a03.\u00a0Coordination<\/span><\/p>\n

We have established linkages with the LGUs (barangay chairs, mayors, Governor), AFP, church, CSOs, and other institutions and individuals on the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Governor has invited us to be part of the Shelter Cluster of the Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC). We have established a good connection with the provincial government thru Tatay Billy Tongco.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also have established a very good partnership with Cebu-based groups (thru Doris) for transport via 2GO as arranged by PR Works, and IT\/documentation with the Cebu bloggers.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Transportation<\/span><\/p>\n

Relief goods coming from CdO can be transported for free via 2GO. Since there are no direct boat trips between CdO and Bohol via 2GO, all goods will be transported via Cebu.<\/p>\n

We have initially asked Ii and Toni to coordinate with 2GO in CdO. Doris has made arrangements to ensure that the goods are moved to Bohol upon arrival in Cebu. We can now begin sending the goods gathered thru the initiative of Myrna and other partners.<\/p>\n

We have also advised DAI to send their goods direct to Cebu. Ayi has made arrangements with AFP in Cebu for the transport of these good from Cebu to Bohol.The Bohol Governor has offered to transport the DAI life boxes to the focus barangays.<\/p>\n

Our Kia DR van loaded with Tubig Mindanaw alkaline bottled water will arrive Tagbilaran from CdO Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

5. DAI DART<\/span><\/p>\n

Ed and Team will arrive in Tagbilaran Tuesday morning. They will immediately meet with the Bohol Governor and Tagbilaran City Mayor, before proceeding to the possible focus barangays.<\/p>\n

\u00a06.\u00a0BM DR HQ<\/span><\/p>\n

We are temporarily based in Brgy. Taloto, Tagbilaran City. We will determine and identify later a more appropriate base for our Team.<\/p>\n

  8. Fr. Desidereo \u201cKiking\u201d Magdusa of our Lady of Lourdes, who is also working with Bishop thru SAC.<\/li>\n
  9. We have also coordinated with the ICP and local government units.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
