AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 9

Good evening!
Almost the whole morning, we experienced rains in Gingoog City. Despite that, however, we decided to push through with our plans of distributing relief to the barangays of Sangalan and Eureka.

Early morning meeting

Early this morning, we met up with Sir Marlon Pajo of the Gingoog CDRRMC and Barangay Captain Rogelyn Virtudazo of Barangay Sangalan. Sir Marlon was able to give us updates on relief distribution by the LGU and other organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Cap Rogelyn showed us photographs of landslides and broken roads in their area. She said that the barangays of Sangalan and Eureka have been having a difficult time accessing food due to the damaged roads, and the high river water levels. She also specified that Sitio Tabon-tabon was having difficulty accessing potable drinking water. (Most of the other areas have springs where residents could source their water.)

AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 8

This weekend the team here in Gingoog City spent time gathering data, and receiving and repacking the relief goods.

Relief Goods

Yesterday, we received relief goods delivered by Sgt. Harris Turno of the 58th IB, 4th ID from Cagayan de Oro. Considering the great need in the areas where food supply from the city has been cut off, we repacked the relief goods today so that each pack contains the following:

AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 7

Good day, friends and partners!

Even after the LPA has dissipated, light to moderate rains are still affecting parts of Mindanao including Cagayan de Oro and Gingoog City. This, along with the weakened upland formations, have resulted in even more landslides and rockslides. Here is our latest report:

 Cagayan de Oro

111 families in 9 barangays in CDO were reported to be affected by landslides. These include 9 families in Carmen, 36 families in Calaanan and 28 families in Malasag. These affected areas are for immediate assessment by the Mines and Geohazards Bureau.

Currently, we still need to assess if there is any additional need to supplement the city’s efforts to provide these communities with relief.Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 7

AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 6

As Cagayan de Oro City has almost normalized after the Tropical-Storm-turned-Low-Pressure-Area, Agaton, Balay Mindanaw DREAM Team is now focusing its relief efforts on Gingoog City, which in previous updates you may have read has been affected by landslides and floods.

The Team in Gingoog City has been working hard in securing our home barangay 23, which is close to Gahub River. Now that all the evacuees at the Kalambuan Center have returned to their homes, our focus has also shifted to communities affected by landslides.Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 6

AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 5

Good morning! Here is Balay Mindanaw DREAM Team’s update as of 11pm of January 22, 2014:

The LPA affecting the Philippines has since dissipated. The tropical depression, internationally known as Lingling and locally known as Agaton, poured heavy rains over many parts of Mindanao. The rains have caused the river levels to rise, putting many people at risk for floods. In addition, they have caused landslides and compromised transportation due to broken bridges.

Thus Balay Mindanaw has been monitoring and/or providing relief to its partner areas, namely: Cagayan de Oro City, Gingoog City, Aleosan in North Cotabato, and Cagwait and Lianga in Surigao del Sur. Aleosan has had very little rain, and there has been no need for evacuation there. Some communities in Cagwait and Lianga have evacuated, but have since returned to their homes.

This report focuses on Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City:Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 5
