Despite the fact that most media put more spotlight in Tacloban in the Province of Leyte where most international responses have converged, remote areas worst-hit by the SuperTyphoon Yolanda/Haiyan in Nov. 8 likewise need close attention and assistance.

The Disaster Risk Reduction, Resiliency Building and Emergency Assistance Mission (DREAM) of Balay Mindanaw Group is already present in two areas: Ormoc City in Leyte, Eastern Visayas and in President Roxas in Capiz, Western Visayas (Panay Island). Balay Mindanaw Group of NGOs is conducting its relief efforts in cooperation and coordination with other groups and agencies – to help peoples and communities severely damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda (international codename: Haiyan). It’s been ten days after the Supertyphoon Haiyan/Yolanda seriously hit the Eastern and Central Visayas, and yet severely affected communities in remote places in Leyte and Panay Island have yet to be provided with necessary emergency assistance. The total shutdown of communications and infrastructure in worst-hit areas may have hindered the speedy rescue and relief operations, taking into account the massive scale and magnitude of the destructions and deaths. PRELIMINARIES

– Ii and Tess arrived safely Ilo-ilo @ 2:40pm. The two immediately communicated with the VOICE Network partner Ms. Ma. Theresa “Maita” Magalo, head of the Disaster Management Community of Reconciliation (DM-CoR) group, in Barrio Obrero, Ilo-ilo City.
– Ms. Magalo sent her staff and volunteers to facilitate, assist & help in the tasks of the Logistics committee in preparation of relief operation in Roxas, Capiz.
