Balay Mindanaw Earthquake Response Nov 9, 2019

I. Psycho-Social Support (PSS)

The Balay Mindanaw Psycho-Social Support (PSS) Team together with volunteers from Duyog Marawi and fresh reinforcement from Cagayan de Oro City and Bohol, continued its accompaniment mission with the OMI and Notre Dame Broadcasting Corps volunteers. Yesterday, they went to Barangay Magkaalam in Magpet where they conducted PSS sessions with 175 earthquake survivors (19 adult males, 68 adult females, 19 youth and 88 children), and in Barangay Bangkal, also in Magpet where they had PSS sessions with 145 participants (21 adult males, 46 adult females, 12 youth and 66 children).

The Team also identified the following as the needs in the two barangays: Blanket, Trapal, (tarps) Mosquito nets, Coffee Medicines for headache, cough, fever, colds and stomach disorder.

II. Logistics

The Balay Mindanaw Disaster Response Team distributed safe drinking water using a mobile SkyHydrant ultrafiltration unit in Brgy. Manobo, Magpet, Cotabato to 821 families affected by the earthquake. Waterborne diseases like diarrhea are present and the children are the most affected. The residents in the barangay are very thankful for the clean drinking water and jerry cans. They pressed their wish to have their own permanent SkyHydrant filtration unit.

III. Status of the Balay Mindanaw DR and PSS Team

After one week in the DR mission areas, the Balay Mindanaw staff and volunteers are going home to take needed rest as they prepare for more work ahead. We salute and give our thanks and appreciation to the Team!
