I. EMERGENCY REPONSE
The Balay Mindanaw Staff and volunteers prepared food packs for a total of 1,475 families affected by the Marawi Crisis.
In partnership with the Ranao Rescue Team and the Barangay Local Government Unit, 475 of these food packs containing 5kls of rice, 1.2kl of dressed chicken and 1 dozen eggs were distributed to home-based IDPs in Brgy. Santiago, Iligan City last June 20.
Another 889 food packs were distributed to home-based IDPs in barangays Pawak, Comonal, Salucod and Dilimbayan in Saguiran, Lanao del Sur on June 24. The food pack contained the following: 5kls of rice, 1/2kl monggo beans, 1kl brown sugar, 1dozen coffee sticks, 1/2dozen milo and 3 cans of tuna flakes. The distribution was also in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and the different Barangay Councils. A total of 111 food packs were turned over to local partners to be distributed to some home-based IDPs in Brgy. Sta. Elena in Iligan City and Piagapo, Lanao del Sur.
A PSS Training dubbed as “May K ka ba kahit KKBKB?” was conducted by the Balay Mindanaw PSS Team with 30 youth leaders, facilitators, volunteers and educators last June 22 to 23 with the help of four partners / resource persons.
After the training, actual PSS activities were done last June 24 for home-based IDPs, particularly adults and children, in Saguiran. The team distributed coloring and reading materials for distribution during the PSS.
Games, singing and coloring activities were conducted for children with ages 3 to 5, 6 to 9 and 10 to 15 years old and a total of 350 children coming from barangays Pawak, Comonal, Salucod and Dilimbayan in Saguiran, Laneo del Sur were provided with these PSS activities. Tarpaulins were placed on the floor so the children can have a clean space where they played, draw and colored.
For adults, no formal activities were conducted but small groups and individual discussions were done asking how they are and the team shared / distributed reading materials on how to take care of oneself and others in times of disaster. These materials were also in Maranao version.
