Balay Mindanaw DREAM
Updates as of June 19, 2017
Balay Mindanaw has lent another unit of Skyhydrant to be used by the National Incident Management Team (NIMT) to continue providing potable water to the Evacuation Centers. Our team from Balay Mindanaw also supported the NIMT in personally doing the rationing of the water in 5 Evacuation Centers in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte during the weekend.
To date, the Skyhydrant was already able to provide a total of 22,100 liters of water to 1,185 families in 9 different Evacuation Centers in Lanao del Norte.
The DOH, through Humanitarian Response Consortium (HRC), conducted a test to determine the quality of water produced form the filter last June 18, 2017. A sample from the source water (spring) from Balo-i was also taken to differentiate the results. Engr. Saiden of HRC said the result of the source water testing came positive with ecoli, which validated the initial information relayed to us. He informed us that the water which came out from the Skyhydrant (with the same source) showed no signs of bacteria. The results will be shared in the next WASH Cluster meeting.
From canned goods to fresh alternatives, we were also able to provide food packs containing 5 kilos of rice, 1.1kg of halal dressed chicken and a dozen eggs to 600 home-based IDPs in Brgy. Barra in the Mun. of Opol, Misamis Oriental. There are 3,200 individuals who fled Marawi and are now living with their relatives in Barra, Opol. The distribution is supported by the Barangay Council, BHWs, CSWD, BMFI, inter-faith groups, barangay tanods, and police. Delivering fresh goods (BMG’s first!) was in response to feedback and the IDPs’ request that, if possible, they be given an alternative other than canned goods.
6 packs containing 30 pcs. of tarpaulins and two tents were also turned-over to Pailig Development Foundation, Inc.. These will be used for their partner communities hosting home-based evacuees to decongest houses (tarps) and for prayer room (tents) in Kolambogan, LDN.
Balay Mindanaw’s PSS Team is also doing preparations for the first batch of training of trainors on PSS which will be conducted this week.
A field assessment in Saguiaran was also done to explore possibilities of providing support to the IDPs in the area. The assessment was done in coordination with ARMM HART and the team also met with the ARMM Vice-Governor.
