A new team of highly respected and distingushed individuals have been chosen and mandated to take on the chairpersonship of the Board of Trustees of the institutions belonging to the Balay Mindanaw Group of NGOs (BMG).
During the first-ever Joint Meeting of the Boards of BMG on August 27, 2014, the Trustees granted the request of Charlito “Kaloy” Manlupig, the erstwhile Chairperson of all the Boards of the four BMG member-institutions, that he be allowed to step down, paving the way for the election of new chairpersons.
The founding Chairperson of Balay Mindanaw Foundation, Inc. (BMFI), Sylvia “Ibing” Okinlay-Paraguya, who stepped down as BMFI Chair in 2010 is now back as Chair of the BMFI Board. She is also the new Chairperson of Bangko sa Balay Foundation, Inc. (BBFI) the microfinance institution of the Balay Mindanaw Group. Ibing, the CEO of the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), is an acknowledged key leader of the cooperative and civil society movements both locally and globally. She is a Mindanaoan Filipina from the Higaonon indigenous tribe of Bukidnon.
Ariel “Ayi” Hernandez has assumed the key leadership role of the social enterprise institution of the Balay Mindanaw Group, the Katilingbanong Pamahandi sa Mindanaw Foundation, Inc. (KPMFI), as its new Chairperson and President. Ayi, who was born and raised in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, Mindanao, continues to chart a distinguished career as a CSO leader, innovator and social entrepreneur.
The Global Mindanaw Polytechnic, Inc. (GMPI), the youngest institution in the BMG, is expected to scale greater heights with the leadership of the new Chairperson of the Board, Edicio “Ed” dela Torre – an internationally acclaimed and distinguished activist, theologian, educator, artist, writer and leader. The latest addition to his long list of achievements is his conferment as Eminent Fellow by the Development Academy of the Philippines.
The other equally distinguished and respected Trustees of the institutions of the Balay Mindanaw Group are Victor Gerardo “Gerry” Bulatao, Judge Ma. Corazon “Azon” Gaite-Llanderal, Teodorico “Teody” Pena, Reginald “Reggie” Villasanta, Jose Noel “Butch” Olano, Charmaine Mae “xx” Dagapioso-Baconga, Luz Villasanta, Rochelle “Bibing” Mordeno, Richard Rejas, Goldelino “Goldie”Chan, Fleurabelle “Flong” Torres, Irene Floro and Paul Richard Paraguya.
The Boards also decided to confer the title of Chairperson Emeritus (Honorary Chairperson) to Kaloy Manlupig, as he continues to journey with Balay Mindanaw.
