Helping rebuild homes, helping rebuild lives\u2026<\/b><\/p>\n

Balay Mindanaw Disaster Risk-Reduction and Resiliency-Building and Emergency Assistance Mission (DREAM) <\/b>teams continue to live and work in our chosen areas, connecting with local leaders, getting and validating data, mobilizing volunteers, preparing relief goods, distributing other aids with partners.<\/p>\n

After the distribution of food packs and water in the communities of Ormoc and Capiz in Panay Island during the first weeks of relief operations, shelter repair materials and hygiene kits are the next immediate needs of families in the aftermath of Yolanda disaster, based from the actual field assessment of DREAM teams. Such essentials cannot wait no longer in some areas. For instance in Barangay Goce in the municipality of P. Roxas, the communities have boldly started rebuilding their homes without delays, not waiting for reliefs. They know better.<\/p>\n

As part of the emergency response, Balay Mindanaw\u2019s goal is to help 5,000 families with food relief packs, 3,000\u00a0families with shelter\/home repair materials and hygiene kits. Given the resources that were mobilized from friends and donors all over the globe since day one, Balay Mindanaw hopes to deliver these assistances including the aids provided by other local and international partners.<\/p>\n

DREAM Team Leyte<\/b><\/h2>\n

<\/b>On Relief Operation<\/b><\/h3>\n

a.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b>Food Packs. <\/b>In addition to the 1,000 food packs distributed by the DREAM team as relief goods to the affected families in Barangay San Juan one week after Yolanda hit Visayas, another 800 food packs were distributed by the team, this time from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). This is the second time that this barangay is receiving food reliefs.<\/p>\n

b.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b>Shelter Repair Kits. <\/b>The team has finally validated and completed the number of survivors to receive the shelter repair kits (SRKs) in Barangay San Juan, Ormoc City, with the following number of households per sitio. In the next report, the team will determined the actual number of families who received the SRKs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

c. OTHERS. <\/b>Aside from the second batch of Medical and Emergency Response Team (MERT) who arrived in order to continue the medical mission, the Johanniter from Germany also sent sets of wheelchairs in Ormoc City. The DREAM team immediately went out to look for recipients and have found 8 survivors in Barangay San Juan who needed wheelchairs the most. Almost all of them can hardly walk anymore due to old age, arthritis, accident, diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
