The Katilingbanong Pamahandi sa Mindanaw Foundation, Inc. traces its origin of being an area-based operation team of Balay Mindanaw Foundation, Inc. (BMFI) in Gingoog City. It gradually spun-off as a separate organization from BMFI in 2006 to focus more on the local issues and realities of the communities living in the city of Gingoog and its neighboring towns.
KPMFI carries with it the experience and capacity in promoting sustainable integrated area development, developing the mechanism and technology for democratic participation of people and communities in local governance, and facilitating agrarian reform implementation. However, as a young and dynamic social enterprise organization, KPMFI specially holds an additional core competency: a catalyst for model building towards transforming poor households into entrepreneurs.
On October 17, 2006, KPMFI was registered with the Security Exchange Commission as a non-stock and non-profit foundation.
