AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 6

As Cagayan de Oro City has almost normalized after the Tropical-Storm-turned-Low-Pressure-Area, Agaton, Balay Mindanaw DREAM Team is now focusing its relief efforts on Gingoog City, which in previous updates you may have read has been affected by landslides and floods.

The Team in Gingoog City has been working hard in securing our home barangay 23, which is close to Gahub River. Now that all the evacuees at the Kalambuan Center have returned to their homes, our focus has also shifted to communities affected by landslides.Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 6

AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 5

Good morning! Here is Balay Mindanaw DREAM Team’s update as of 11pm of January 22, 2014:

The LPA affecting the Philippines has since dissipated. The tropical depression, internationally known as Lingling and locally known as Agaton, poured heavy rains over many parts of Mindanao. The rains have caused the river levels to rise, putting many people at risk for floods. In addition, they have caused landslides and compromised transportation due to broken bridges.

Thus Balay Mindanaw has been monitoring and/or providing relief to its partner areas, namely: Cagayan de Oro City, Gingoog City, Aleosan in North Cotabato, and Cagwait and Lianga in Surigao del Sur. Aleosan has had very little rain, and there has been no need for evacuation there. Some communities in Cagwait and Lianga have evacuated, but have since returned to their homes.

This report focuses on Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City:Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 5

As of 11PM today, rainfall advisories have been terminated by the DOST PAG-ASA. However, we intend to remain vigilant until all alerts for floods and landslides have been cleared.Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 4

“I’ve been a farmer since I was a child, my parents used to accompany me when they work to the farm.   I thought the planted coconut trees and the farm that we used to till will guarantee our future…but now, nothing is left” narrates Felicitas Casil, 65 years old from Ban-ao, Baganga, Davao Oriental.

A survivor of the Typhoon Pablo in December 4, 2013, she felt very sad seeing that all houses and coconut trees were destroyed by the Typhoon. But now she can laugh recounting how the coconut trees were brought to the ground “It seems they had been been cut down by Typhoon Pablo with his chainsaw.”Read More »BLESSING IN DISGUISE

AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 3

Today, we are continuing relief operations despite slowly subsiding of floods and water levels and decreased rainfall in areas we are monitoring. Considering that weather forecasts from multiple sources (including DOST PAG-ASA, Weather Underground and Weather.com.ph) still predict light to heavy rains in many areas of Mindanao for today, we are also alert for any changes. Despite this, also, many people remain in evacuation centers.Read More »AGATON/LINGLING EMERGENCY RESPONSE UPDATE NO. 3
