Relief Operations Updates:
Today, the BM Relief Team
distributed school supplies kits to 899 school children in Bonbon
Elementary School and 80 packs of food and non-food items in Zone 9,
Bonbon. Food and clothing packages good for 89 families were also
delivered to the tent communities in Barangay Indahag.
Tomorrow, 290 school supplies
kits will be distributed to the school children in Barangays
Canitoan and Kauswagan.
Shelter Updates:
Today, the second
BM-supported tent community near the San Miguel Chapel in Lomboy,
Barangay Indahag will welcome 39 families from the City Central
School as its temporary residents while they await permanent
relocation. Three portalets from DSWD and a water tank from CRS have
been delivered. Power is expected to be installed in time for the
moving in of the new residents.
Also today, BM workers and
volunteers, DAI volunteers and 30 Boy Scouts set up 13 tents at the
Regional Science High School. This third BM-supported tent community
will welcome its new residents tomorrow.
At the first tent community
at Indahag Elementary School, 12 committees have been formed,
community-building activities and discussions on livelihood projects
have begun, and the Camp Manager has been appointed by DSWD.
PSI Updates:
As part of its psycho-social
intervention (PSI), BM, with three graduating Psychology students of
Ateneo de Davao, facilitated games and drawing activities for 25
school-age children (5 to 12 years old) whose families were among
the residents of Sitios Calacala, Tibasak and Tambo in Barangay
Macasandig, and now temporarily staying at the first Indahag Tent
Community. More follow through activities are being planned by the
PSI Cluster.
Resources Updates:
World Food Programme (WFP)
has informed the BM Operations Center that 28 boxes of relief goods
from South Korea are arriving within the week.
Now that we have entered the
third week of operations, the flow of cash donations has
significantly slowed down, while the demand for more comprehensive
work has grown. We now need to intensify our efforts at more
programmatic and more sustained interventions. Arthur Neame, former
country representative of Christian Aid-UK, has arrived to help us
prepare proposals to help sustain our disaster response and risk
reduction initiatives.
We wish to thank you again
and again for your continuing accompaniment and support.
We refuse to be victims. We
choose to be resources.
