Balay Mindanaw Relief Operations Report No. 4 (as of 12 noon, 21 December 2011)

Packed food items ready for distribution to Barangay Iponan

Balay Mindanaw continues to focus its relief operations on providing food and water to about four thousand (4,000) families or 21,000 persons in the five barangays (villages) of Bulua, Iponan, Canitoan, Bonbon and Kauswagan.  There are 26 more villages covered by other groups in Cagayan de Oro.

After 3 days of relief operations, we have already served 762 families (approximately 5,334 individuals) in 4 barangys (Opol, Bulua, Bonbon and Iponan). Each family served got  5 kilos of rice, 6 cans of sardines, 6 hardboiled eggs and 3 liters of water per family.  We have also given out additional 3 bundles of clothes and beddings particularly to Brgy. Bonbon whose Barangay Chairperson expressed the need for such assistance.

Support from different local and international organizations and individuals continue to pour.  To date, the following have been received by the BM Relief Operations Center:

Euros: 200 Euros

There are also pledges of unspecified amounts locally and from Australia, USA, and Europe.

MIsereor has offered 5,000 Euros in support of the BM Relief Work.

100 boxes of water (24 bottled per box @ 1 liter per bottle) from AIM-MIRANT
Goods, 2 fire trucks and 7 volunteers from LGU Maramag
Goods from Kids for Peace
Goods from 6th Infantry Division, AFP PA
Clothings/Medicine from Dr. Jojo Aguirre

Again, we express our deepest gratefulness to our volunteers, friends, supporters, and to all the kind hearts who are with us.  You inspire and strengthen us.

We are also inspired by the wisdom of our dear friend, the late Dekha Ibrahim:  “I refuse to be a victim.  I am a resource for PEACE.”
